The Great War
This interactive UK National Archives Learning Curve presentation provides seven different investigations that will tell the story of the Great War - the First World War, 1914-18. The sources in these investigations have been chosen to highlight the role of important events, or communications from individuals that were key to the war.

Paths of Memory
This multi-lingual European museum site has well organized sections on the First World War, Spanish Civil War, and the Second World War.

David Lloyd George
David Lloyd George became the British Prime Minister at the height of WWI and held that office until 1922. This online exhibition commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of his death and focuses on both public and private aspects of his life.

History 20
The Saskatchewan Social Studies Curriculum has developed a "resource hot sheet" dealing with topics identified in the History 20 (Modern World History) curriculum. Each page has been supported with appropriate visual images, and where possible, first person accounts by individuals who were present during the event. In addition, a number of multimedia-learning objects are present including sound bites, mini - movies and flash items. Two major simulations have been developed for students that can be used in a stand-alone delivery mode. The Battle of the Somme enables students to take on the role of a World War One general.

Britain 1906 - 1918
This interactive UK National Archives Learning Curve exhibition provides six galleries studying the varied life of the British people in 1906-18, plus a seventh gallery devoted to review and revision.

Eyewitness to History: World War One

This is a decision-making activity where students play the role of a British soldier in 1914. You must be a paid subscriber in order to access material.

World War I: A Soldiers Record - What Can You Tell?
This snapshot focuses on a Scottish World War I soldier, Donald Campbell. The main task requires pupils to decide whether he was a 'good solider'. This snapshot does not give a broad history of World War I; instead, it personalizes the conflict by helping pupils find out what happened to one solider. (This snapshot can form part of studies for Scheme of Work Unit 18, and could also be a valuable activity for Modern World GCSE groups investigating the First World War.)

The League of Nations Photo Archive
The League of Nations Photo Archive is a newly announced resource that is sponsored jointly by the Center for the Study of Global Change, the United Nations Library, and the Indiana University Libraries. The League of Nations Overview of PhotoCollections organizes the photos into groups: Personalities, Assemblies, Councils, Delegations, Commissions, Conferences, the Secretariat, the Permanent Court of International Justice, the Bureau International du Travail, and miscellaneous photos.

Art of the First World War
This site features 100 paintings from international collection to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the conflict. Visitors can examine the exhibit thematically re artillery, battlefield, suffering, etc.

BBC History: 1916 Easter Uprising
The 1916 Easter Rising and the War of Independence that followed in 1919-21 transformed the political landscape in Ireland. You can explore the events leading up to 1916, the Insurrection itself and its aftermath, through essays, photographs, sound archive, music and newspapers from the period

The Titanic
History on the Net has a section on the Titanic that asks "Why did the Titanic sink?". This site also looks at many aspects of the ship and includes a worksheet, a bibliography and a "further information" section.

Free 20th Century History Quizzes
Learn fascinating facts about our twentieth century. Each quiz selects 20 questions at random from a total set of 600, therefore you can play an unlimited number of times. Quiz can be hard to view in some browsers.

The World's History: Technologies of Mass Production and Destruction, 1914-1990s

WWI in Cartoons
